Our founder, Sue, grew up with dogs and showed her family dog as a teenager in 4H.
Things really started to happen when she got her first Belgian Malinois, though. Sue's first Malinois came to them as a 9 month old puppy through the Malinois Breed Rescue. They were her third home and they were determined that she was going to stay with them so they named her, I'm a Keeper, or 'Keeper' for short.
Keeper is the dog that Sue made her first collars for. Being a rescue dog, she came to them with some "issues" that they had to deal with. One of those was that Keeper didn't ever want anything passed over her head so all collars had to be buckle-type. Sue had an issue too. She needed the control that a prong collar offered, but found that having to squeeze the prongs to put the collar on and off was very difficult for her. That's when she came up with her first collar that secured the prongs inside of a nylon web and used a quick connecting buckle to secure the collar.
She had many inquiries about the collars that Keeper wore from people that she met at training centers and when out in public. People started to ask her to make collars for their dogs too, that's when Keeper Collars™ was born, taking it's name from her beloved, Keeper.
As time has gone on, she's come up with more improvements to her original collar design as well as complimentary products. We're always learning and looking for better ways to do things with our dogs!
